Hi,

Anyone know if there is any ruling or preference regarding 2nd man's entry
into reel of three (bars 8-9)? Face out and cast vs face in then face down
(R sh back).

Thanks,
Diana

It was on our Asilomar Ball program last year and we taught it that both 2s
come out of the hands across facing out to enter the reels. doesn't make
it right, but it's what we did. It's also what the demo team does in the
video from 2012 Newcastle Festival and they look very fine.

"He who seeks spiritual peace amidst the unresolved strife between peoples,
therefore gladly lowers his gaze to the quiet life of plants and the inner
workings of the sacred force of Nature, or, surrendering to the instinctive
drive that has glowed for millennia in the breast of humanity, he looks
upward with awe to the celestial bodies, which in undisputed harmony,
complete their ancient, eternal course."

Thanks for the replies. I prefer the face out option but was thrown by the
scddb vid from Newcastle festival which does it differently.

Diana

It was part of the dem at Summer School last year along with Ysobel Stewart of Fishoek.
The strathspey is first and then they go straight into Mrs Stewart
without pausing. It’s on Youtube.

Cheers,

In the Pocket edition of 'Book 32 and Leaflets', there is a figure for
bar 9 showing 2W and 2M
both facing out and dancing out and down to start their reel, perhaps
implying that 2M does
not face in at the end of bar 8 This figure is repeated in 'Leaflet
Dances with Music' but has
been omitted in the most recent A5 combined edition 'Leaflet Dances 1964-1998 and Other
Dances'

The situation is very similar to Major Ian Stewart where 2C turn each
other with the right hand
before entering the reel. Here, all editions specify "2ns couple stay facing out"
