Re FM transmitters in the UK... Apparently it's not illegal to sell them in the UK (provided they have a "CE" mark) or to own them, but it is illegal to use them at present. From the Ofcom (Office of Communication) website:- " Will such devices always be illegal to use in the UK? Ofcom has been working with European standardisation bodies and other European administrations to formulate a European standard for low power devices operating in the FM band. The European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications (CEPT) has now made a recommendation that devices of this type could be allowed to operate in Europe, provided that they meet stringent technical requirements. Many devices currently available will not meet these technical requirements and as a result are unlikely to be authorised for use in the UK in the future. Ofcom is considering the CEPT recommendation to allow the use of this equipment in the UK (possibly on a licence exempt basis), provided that it complies with CEPT‘s proposals. Prior to any change to regulations Ofcom will undertake a public consultation. In the meantime, FM band low power transmitters must not be operated in the UK.
