Re: Teddy Bear's Picnic

April 24, 1998, 5:38 p.m. (Message 11786, in reply to message 11776)

The first time I danced La Fete Champetre was at Summer School, when we
were taught the dance in one of the classes: the teacher and the pianist
(who was Muriel Johnstone) conspired to use other music for the
teaching/learning activity - then, when we had learned the figures, we
danced the dance right through with the right music (which is, of course,
The Teddy Bears' Picnic), the effect of surprise was great -- as that was
the first time anyone in the class had heard of the dance and its
association!

It seems that the association of Teddy Bears and Picnic and Dancing in the
Park all have something of the same spirit! My wife so enjoyed the dance
that she gave me an ideal SCD birthday present: a painting of a Teddy
Bears' Scottish Country Dance Picnic!
