Dance on the Sands

Hi, Folks:

An opinion from you all would be welcomed.

As there are few 3 x 40 strathspeys recorded, as noted, it can be danced
as a four-couple set.

Here is my strathspey:

DANCE ON THE SANDS
THREE COUPLES  3 x 40  STRATHSPEY

Bars
  1 -:-  8 First couple, followed by second couple [who dance up]. Lead
down the middle of the set, turn [second couple leading] and dance up to

the top. Third couple step in ready for allemande.

  9 -:- 14 All three couples allemande.

15 -:- 16 Second and third couples complete full allemande. First couple

drop hands and advance setting to face first corners.

17 -:- 20 First couple dance a half reel of four with first corners,
first couple pass left shoulders.

21 -:- 24 First couple dance a half reel of four with second corners,
first couple dancing down and crossing through third position, then --

25 -:- 28 First man and first woman cast up round third couple
positions, meet in second place with inside hands joined [2 bars], then
dance up the set to top place [2 bars]. At the same time, the men give
left hands on the side to change places as do the women [2 bars]. Second

and third couples give right hands to cross to change places [2 bars].
29 -:- 32 First couple cast into second place on own sides. At the same
time, the men give left hands on the side to change places as do the
women [2 bars]. All couples take hands on the side and set. [2, 1, 3, 4]

THE BIRL
33 -:- 36 First man and third woman set advancing to each other, then
turn three quarters round with both hands. They release hands at end of
bar 35 and pivot right about on bar 36 to finish back-to-back, first man

facing down and third woman facing up. At the same time first woman and
third man dance counter-clockwise round the other dancers to finish
facing partner.

37 -:- 40 First and third couples set to partners then turn with both
hands to finish on own sides, having changed places.

  ** Repeat with a new top couple.

** This dance can be used as a four-couple set dance: the lead couple
casts to the bottom of the set on bars 1 and 2 as the new top couple
start the dance again.       [April 16, 1998]
