THE INTERNATIONAL Scottish Country Dance School began in 1979 to
coincide with the first International Gathering of the Clans in Nova Scotia.
The School drew Scottish Country Dance enthusiasts from all over North America.
This guaranteed an international reputation that continues to attract
many new and returning dancers.
The School combines a high calibre of teaching and a relaxed
atmosphere, conducive to both the serious and the social sides of dancing.
As 1997 is the 15th Anniversary year of the Nova Scotia Branch of the
Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, it seemed a fitting time to reinstate
the school.
This year "live music" is offered for all classes and socials. Your
teachers, all of a very high standing, promise to give you a good week of
dancing, while your hosts promise to give you a holiday to remember.
You are invited to participate in the renowned hospitality of Nova
Scotians as you are taken through a time of song, dance and merriment _
enough to make you Scottish for a lifetime. All of this takes place
in the old-world atmosphere of King's College, the oldest University
in the British Commonwealth.
Classes will be as follows:
Basic: For those who are acquiring a knowledge of steps and
formations, who have attended classes regularly for six months, and
who can dance a dance comfortably after walking through from each position.
Intermediate: For those who have been introduced to more advanced
formations, who can dance with good phrasing, teamwork, deportment
and use of hands, and who can manage a new dance after walking through
from one position.
Advanced: For those who are highly competent in all aspects of the
dance, and can recall recently-taught dances after a talk-through.
Emphasis will be on technique, requiring a high degree of physical fitness.
