This is in response to Becky Sager's dance which she broadcast on this list a few days ago. It really is addressed to Becky, but perhaps others of you who have also tried out the dance may be interested in talking about it. We tried it out last Friday with our 'advanced' group. Firstly, there are several things which I DO like - so this is not a hatchet job :-) On the whole it was nice to dance, But ... The diagonal rights-and-lefts in six bars degenerated every time into a wild melee in the middle of the dance (we even repeated the whole thing, so this happened 16 times). I really don't think that this is a practical figure. To end by praising the good bits. Indeed, why not have a left shoulder reel-of-four? It works in extremely well with the figures before and after. The last 16 bars make for a very interesting (and enjoyable) progression. The problem was that people started to feel very nervous when, after an eight-bar phrase, they were no longer opposite their respective partners! There was sometimes a bit of shuffling about as a result and then, after the next eight bars, "Oops, I've changed partners again!". (If only the first eight bars, could be made a bit easier!) Thanks Becky, for giving us the opportunity to try something new. Alan -- Alan Paterson Berne, Switzerland xxxx@xxxxxxx.xxx
