I don't know if the dance was ever published on paper. Shengzhang was
living in Birmingham, AL and dancing with us in Atlanta,GA when he
devised it so it has always been popular here. The online instructions
linked to SCDDB are correct. The back story is that the dance was
inspired by a mishap during an innovative interpretation of Waverley
at the annual Ball which was held in Gatlinburg, Tennessee for many
years in conjunction with the Smoky Mountain Games. I'm sure many
would agree that Waverley could benefit from a little spicing up and
in those days weaving in and out during the chases was common practice
here. Mr. Tang witnessed an inadvertent lead change in his set and
thought it would make a cool progression!
