Endless Strathspeys (was 3 X)

Feb. 14, 2005, 1:03 p.m. (Message 40660)

As more than one person has said, "some of the 8 x speys seem to go on
for ever". This was one of the factors that prompted me to devise my
first dance back in November 1992. I made it a 4x48 strathspey as that
is too long to encore but not as long as 8x32.
The dance is called Lady Ryder of Warsaw as the other reason for
devising it was to raise money for the Sue Ryder Foundation, for whom
I was doing voluntary work at the time. Brian Hamilton wrote the lead
tune and my class accordionist, John Barnes, has recently written a
second tune for it.
I don't have the instructions to hand at the moment, but will put it
on disk to bring to work and email to Alan & George (and anyone else
who asks). My co-teacher doesn't like the dance as it contains a split
phrase, but it has been on programmes in Aberdeen and Middlesex and
been well received.
