It's not all that uncommon to see this progression in a 3-couple set dance. It is uncommon to take the 3-couple set dance with this progression & dance it in a 4-couple set. It does work, though. Izayoi (Tokyo 10th Anniversary), which Marjorie McLaughlin taught at the Vienna Millenium workshop, and which will be on the Montreal Ball programme this year, is described in the book as being a dance that can be danced as either a 3-couple set dance OR danced in a 4-couple set with 1s & 2s progressing together. But the devisor hoped it would be done in a 4-cpl set. The particularly nice thing about this dance is that if the set is sufficiently experienced, the original 1s & 2s can repeat the 1st 8 bars an extra time as the new top couple starts - that brings the 1s to the bottom & the 2s flow right into the next figure as the supporting 3rd couple. Thanks to Marjorie for introducing us to this dance! Norah Montreal, Canada
