Wheelchair Dancing

April 29, 1998, 12:49 p.m. (Message 11857)

St. Mary's S.C.D. Group periodically gives a display of dances to different
Retirement homes and at Church Guild functions. This last week we paid a visit
to a retirement hospital home and persuaded the Matron to provide four
wheelchair volunteers for a dance. We did the square dance that Bob Archer sent
to Strathspey in January.

It went down very well. We provided the pushers who had a little trouble with
the BB, so changed it midstream to a Rt Shoulder pass back to place. As Bob
suggested it was better to take longer over everything, so the 2 x 32 bar dance
took 4 x 32 bars. As the set was fairly big it did not matter. We danced
(pushed) to the tune of Butterscotch and Honey. We did the dance twice as the
first time was a walk through to get accustomed to pushing and used the pitch
control to slow it down a bit for the second time through.

We were told afterwards that it was the highlight of the afternoon, Matron and
the disabled in the wheelchairs were thrilled they were involved.

Regards,

Malcolm Gillespie (Zimbabwe)
