Which of course is part of my point. At the time of the Gows and others, the appeal of music from Scotland was already common throughout Britain, e.g. no border between Scottish and English music or dance. Point being that many tunes, that we know and document as Scottish are used for dances in England, Moneymusk for instance (same figures, almost, but a bit faster then we are used to - last time I saw it as an English dance they used the "rant step", at a tempo about half way between the RSCDS strathspey RSCDS reel step..
