Kuban Scottish Dancers invite you to come and dance with them in Krasnodar

Festivals of Scottish Music. Just south of the city are the Caucasus
Mountains, shielding the subtropical coast of the Black Sea from the cold
Siberian north winds. There will be time to explore the countryside as well

People and Personalities:

Ilona Velichko
Trained as a linguist, and a competition ballroom dancer, Ilona came to
Bristol University as a lectrice, and fell in love with Scottish Country
dancing. To encourage her enthusiastic dancing friends back home in
Krasnodar, she dreamed of bringing a Scottish Country Dance Band and
teachers to meet them, and then decided to invite all her dancing friends
from all round the world as well. Ilona has put together the itinerary, and
will be our guide and translator and fixer during the holiday.

Helen Russell
Helen learned to dance in Scotland, north of Aberdeen, and attended highland
dance Classes taught by Bobby Watson. She now teaches at the RSCDS Summer
School and has a particular interest in ladies’ step dancing and tutoring
candidates for the RSCDS teacher’s certificate. She is a member of the RSCDS
Education & Training committee. Helen likes teaching dancing and thinks
that the class ought to have fun!

Ian Russell
Ian Russell danced as a teenager at Breadalbane Academy in Perthshire, and
became a real enthusiast while at the University of Aberdeen. More recently
he has been a frequent member of both the Highland and SCD demonstration
teams at the RSCDS Summer School. His main teaching interest lies with
encouraging university students, especially those from overseas, to learn
SCD.

Seonaid Anderson
Seonaid has been dancing since ever she can remember. She teaches and dances
at festivals at home in the Kingdom of Fife and has danced across Europe.
She likes trying other forms of dance and then mixing them with Highland and
SCD - you have been warned!!!

Phill Jones
Phill danced as lad and then took up playing accordion with one aim: to play
for Scottish country dancing. As a teenager he started his own band and has
ventured out from his home base in Sheffield across England, then Wales and
overseas. Phill's unique style is reflected in the band's sound, which you
can all hear on his CD to accompany the Second Sheaf Collection of Scottish
country dances, celebrating 50 years of the Sheffield RSCDS branch in 2005.

Sue Jennings
Sue plays fiddle for Scottish, Morris, Clog and Rapper dancers in a lively
exuberant style. It is rumoured that she has been known to compose the odd
tune when inspiration or necessity strikes! Sue is prone to attending the
odd music session and makes sure her fiddle is the last to be packed away.

David Anderson
David started playing accordion when it was almost the same size as he was
and is now an accomplished band leader; playing for dancing all over
Scotland and anywhere else he can transport his accordion. He is in great
demand for his invigorating music as well as his sense of humour!

Fiona Grant
Based in Bristol, Fiona has taken on the task of publicising and encouraging
participation in the Holiday, and is responsible for the financial
administration of the project. To aid negotiation with Russian bureaucracy,
she has created DanceTour as a not-for-profit company whose business is to
run dance courses. In her spare time she dances.
