Alex,

Dancing 'Aberdonian style' means that everyone lines up all the way down the 
room - not in separate sets of 3/4/5 couples. When the dance begins the 
'first' couple of each joined-up set will begin as usual, but at a suitable 
point in the dance (when, say, the 'first' couple are starting the dance 
from the fourth position in the set) the new first couple will begin the 
dance, so there will be two couples in the same set, each dancing as 'first' 
couple. The result will eventually be (if the band - and the dancers - have 
the stamina) that the original first couple will have danced from the top to 
the bottom of the room and everyone else will have also danced as first 
couple.

To a comparative newcomer like me, it is VERY confusing. All your reference 
points have disappeared!

BTW - Spellcheck has just come up with another wonderful alternative. It 
wants to change 'Aberdonian' to 'Macedonian' - very apt in this instance, 
since Aberdonian stlye dancing is Greek to me <grin>
