As far as the UK goes, copyright always belongs to the creator (unless
he/she then assigns it to someone else). The people who put them up
may or may not be the creators. But it's not an either / or. If you
ask, the copyright owners may be willing to allow them to be used
elsewhere. In the case of Brighton & Hove Club you're welcome.

Are the pictures at the website copyrighted? Or do the people who put these
up allow them to be used at other homepages as well? (for illustration
purposes)

Permission to freely reproduce our photograph (RSCDS John Muir
(Wisconsin) Branch) is hereby granted except that it may not be used as
the "before" photograph in any commercial for weight-loss schemes,
potions, pills or diets.

US law, btw, is the same as English law with respect to copyright
belonging to the creator of the work.

In the case of Pretoria (South Africa), I'm the photographer and I've
no objection to the photo's being used.

Thank you. I just was not sure whether the groups gave the copyright to the
creator of the webpage by submitting their pictures. I will ask the groups
when i need a characteristic picture for the advertisement of SCD events.

And thanks to all who have given permission so far. I will ask it off list
from others, if need be.

With best regards,
Eike
