Too Many Rules?

I agree, I do like to see convention utilized. One can go anywhere and dance
SCD and fit in. I think we just have to be tactful how we introduce
beginners to "the rules".

For example, it is frustrating to go from doing things as done in SCD to our
vintage dance class (19th Century dance) where some of the same dances are
danced but the SCD "rules" are not followed. Drive me crazy. In four hands
across, everybody just piles on hands. In rights and lefts, people are
trying to do courtesy turns on every corner! Forget footwork. I just have to
watch it that I don't pick up bad habits. ;-)
