An SCD friend, who is in charge of all SCD aspects of next October's Seaside Scottish Games in Ventura (CA) and who is not a Strathspey member, has asked me to make this request of you for information and/or suggestions: "I was wondering if you could do me a favor & take this question to the mountain of wisdom that is the Strathspey server. I'd like to know if there is some RSCDS standard for putting forth an adjudication & where the information might be found...or if anyone has suggestions, helpful hints, or dire warnings of what NOT to do." By means of a bit of explanation on my part, it has been decided for the first time to have as one feature of the Games activities an SCD adjudication. Classes and dem. teams have been invited to make a presentation of one J-R-S each for an adjudicator (who is a local teacher emeritus). This is not a contest; it is simply for the purpose of eliciting comments of both commendation and constructive criticism for the presenting group. Robb Quint Thousand Oaks, CA, USA

At the Pleasanton Games there are three classes for the adjudication: Dem Team Social Class Youth Class The adjudicator should be aware of the status of each team and adjust their comments accordingly. Having been a dancer at several adjudications and remembering that the purpose of the adjudication is to have an enjoyable time and improve the level of dancing and teamwork - I would hope that your teacher starts and ends each evaluation with positive comments and does not over dwell on problems or negatives. If you have a youth class in your area I would strongly encourage them to participate - it is fun and most audiences appreciate their effort. Gary San Francisco Branch
