Hi All, I am please to announce that the Mobile SCD Cribs app is now in production and is available in both the Apple Apps Store and the Google Play Store. Information about the app can be found at https://saltire.ca/mobilescdcribs <https://saltire.ca/mobilescdcribs> I would like to thank Anselm, Keith Rose, David Haynes and Lydia Hedge for their help and suggestions in developing the app. Also, I would like to thank the members of the strathspey mailing list who volunteered to be beta testers for the app. The app is an attempt to provide easy “mobile access to some of the basic features of the SCDDB. Let me know if you have any suggestions for additional functions for app and I’ll look into adding the functions. For those of you who have access the Apple devices that use the new M1 chip, the app can be downloaded and used on those devices as well. Please contact me at xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.xx <mailto:xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.xx> if you find any problems / issues with the app. One small bug, which I will be fixing in the next few days, is that the app may not load the dances you attempt to add to your dance list and not inform you why. This happens when the SCDDB server is overloaded and isn’t immediately responding. If this happens, just wait for a few minutes and try again (this happens infrequently). Sound great, but I dance with a partner! I can just see people dancing with their apps in one hand....I saw that once with someone and Pillings... I've been dancing and teaching a long time so I generally know the dances before the talk through starts. But given some of the talk throughs I've tried to look quiet and attentive for, I am happy for anything that helps prepare my fellow dancers to dance. Talking with partner while the talk-through is going on (bad as it may be) is less desirable than a peek at a Pillings or a crib. Of course, ideally such prep is done before taking the floor, but some talk throughs raise confusion rather than reduce it. Charlie's new tool is a simple way to access needed info, on the fly, quickly. Living in an imperfect world, again I say "Thanks, Charlie."

Or you could just call the dances 😊 - agreed if we stuck to the golden oldies and they were repeated often enough, it would not be necessary - but with so many dances on the market and at least some of them excellent 😊 we can't memorise them all. And yes calling is an art - rhythm and emphasis a must, plus also a pleasing voice 😊 Pia

Hi Charlie, I would like to include a review/short report of your app in the April 2022 issue of SCD mag. Let me know if you are happy either to write a few paras yourself and/or for someone to write about their experience of using it. Hi Bruce Herbold, hi Shoko Okumura, Would you like to write a paragraph for the SCD mag on your experience of using the app? Hope you are all able to be out and about dancing now, Fiona Grant Bristol, UK Current editor Scottish Country Dancer Magasine. Hello, I am very pleased that Charlie has made versions of his app for both Apple and Android devices. I know its a lot of work. So thanks! I am also curious to know if anyone on the list has tried either of two similar SCD focussed apps: Pochette or SCD Tools? I heard of them a year or two ago but they are only available for Android devices - which I do not currently have. I think Charlie has said he hopes to extend the functionality of his app in future, but I have the impression that both Pochette and SCD Tools not only display cribs & diagrams but also link SCDDB dances with music tracks on your device which I would find very useful. Though I think Charlie’s app may be the only one linking videos. If anyone who does have an Android device would like to compare and contrast these tools (and report back) their websites are http://www.pochette.org/ <http://www.pochette.org/> and https://www.scottishdance.ru/en/rscds-russia/scd-tools/scd-tools- pocket <https://www.scottishdance.ru/en/rscds-russia/scd-tools/scd- tools-pocket> (and the google playstore entries appear to be https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.pochette.pochette <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.pochette.pochett e> and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.tools <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.tools>). Cheers, Murrough.
