It seems that Diana herself is primarily asking about RSCDS-published dances. So this is not a direct reply to her question. But since the discussion has somewhat evolved to be focused upon Japan, here is a very nice strathspey for all who may not know it which is not necessarily from Japan but which employs as its lead tune one from Japan called Hana composed by Rentaro Taki (1879-1903). This name is not to be confused with the town Hana on Maui but is here the Japanese word 花 (don't know whether the Strathspey will reproduce that kanji) meaning flower. The dance was devised by Alex Gray and is found on the CD Tweeddale Collection #4. It was on the Los Angeles Branch's annual list of dances for a typical term of three years, and folks enjoyed dancing it. It includes the unusual figure The Helix. Cribs are to be found on the SCDDB. Here is a video which includes the correct traditional Japanese lead tune: Hana Strathspey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF39EwnqnkQ Robb Quint Thousand Oaks, CA, USA In a message dated 2/24/2018 11:26:56 PM Pacific Standard Time, xxxxx.xxxxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx writes: Than Iain. Are these published by society though?

Thank you for that. I had videotaped my class dancing the Helix quite a while ago and then, when I next saw the video, could not remember what progressive figure it was or where I had found it. Now I will go into my collection of Alex's books and do a few more 'helix' dances.

And I have fond memories of Once a Month with a neat progression. Aloha Bruce Herbold
