Hi all, Whilst I appreciate that it is a fair distance from most of your home towns to Southern Poland you (or your friends) may be interested in a Festival event to which I am providing advice and assistance. Festival Dybuk is a charity event being held in the Silesian town of Pyskowice during the weekend of 12th and 13th of July. Pyskowice is fairly conveniently located not far from to the modern international airport which serves the Katowice area and which has link services throughout Europe. I have just returned home today after having a meeting with the organising committee for the festival and they are keen to help any visiting dance enthusiasts who may wish to visit their festival event and will offer advice on local accommodation available. If there is enough interest I am sure that a reasonable priced bus shuttle service could be organised from guest accommodation in the area. The festival will be a mixture of fun events, performances, craft fairs and music sessions. Pia Walker (RSCDS International Branch) is the Volunteer Guest Teacher for a series of SCD Workshops which will operate during Friday (11th), Saturday and Sunday for mainly young student dancers from around Poland who are interested in adding SCD to their Irish and Highland style dance skills and she will be assisted by Luke and Adam Brady. There will also be Public Participation dancing during the main festival events. The Sunday will be mainly a Highland Games style event commencing at 1100 with a parade through the Town led by the Czestochowa Pipes and Drums Band and the local Mayor who has been fitted out with the kilt for the occasion. The route takes about 40 minutes and visitors (in kilts if possible) are requested to join the parade. As local accommodation is limited I have requested that the town arranges an advice facility to help potential visitors and the organisers have agreed to help where possible. Pyskowice is regarded as the original home for the development of Celtic interest and music groups in southern Poland. It should be a fun event rather than a more formal SCD Ball and the organisers are keen to attract as many visitors to participate as possible, they are estimating at least 2500 local spectators. The festival closes at 2200 each day but as the Festival Director (Piotr) is also the owner of a local pub (Gospoda 6) and a beer garden it is indicated that the musicians maybe welcomed to perform in late night sessions if they wish to join in!! Festival Website: (being developed) http://dybuk.pl Information: xxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xx I will also be happy to provide any general information if required. I would also advise an early decision is appropriate as Wizzair flights are still partly 'on Promo' at about £70 return from BournemouthOther routes may vary in price Hotel Accommodation: I was paying 140pln (£35) for a double room in Bedzin, Poland There are also plans to hold the 6th Bedzin Celtic Music Festival on 29th to 31st August and I have been requested to repeat the workshops we (Scosha) conducted last year. As it is the 650th anniversary of the Town of Bedzin there are many events being organised there this year.
