Perhaps that's why my teacher preferred R L R hop, L R L hop (with the emphaisis on the first beat of each bar, as has been mentioned.) I don't remember the steps being tiring, but I didn't have hard shoes. The teacher was a folk dance teacher from Northumberland, by the way. I don't know if that would explain anything? Me too - especially practising in Old Aberdeen High Street going from dem. practice to the pub - the High Street was cobbled at the time! I remember someone stopped us to ask the score - they thought we were coming from Pittodrie (when the Dons were still a good team!). Helen Now in Dublin
