As I understand it, and it makes sense, one 'leads ', right hand in right, when one is crossing one's partner over at the bottom of the set (or elsewhere). Otherwise one 'dances up' or 'down' with near hands joined. I agree that the instructions in some dances are misleading, but I queried this with an international teacher of excellent repute , and that was his answer. Ian
