Elaine Brunken quotes the classic Glasgow ritual of asking someone
to dance and being accepted as:
> "Ye dancin'?"
> "Ye askin'?"
> "A'm askin' "
> "A'm Dancin'"

There is also the version declining further discussion:
"Ye dancin'?"
"Naw, it's jist the wey ah'm staunin'"

Not a TV show though, Elaine. This was around long before TV - I am
reliably informed :)

I believe you . I remember Francie and Josie or somebody like that doing
it !!! I have no idea where it came from. But it is fun to find another
Scot..who responds.

A similar gambit is the response to being refused by a partner who one
has just asked dance...

On being refused one jumps back and exclaims loudly Five Pounds
(dollars, francs, marks etc.) youre far too expensive
