Dear Friends!
I need some help. Does anyone know the proper phrasing of the
last 8 bars of the "Strathspey for the Black Watch". According to
MiiCrib it should be danced as:
1s turn 2s 1.1/2 times on sides (Ladies RH
& Men LH) while 4s dance out end
looping round into original places, 1s dance between 3s (giving nearer hand in
passing) & turn 4s 1.1/2 times (Ladies RH & Men LH) to end 2 3 4 1
I cant imagine, how to phrase it corectly
                                                                        Â
Thank you in advance.
                                                                                  Â

Hello, yes the last 8 bars is a bit vague & propose amending it to:-
25-32 1s & 4s dance out ends & cast into original places as 2s & 3s
step up/down & 1s+2s turn 1½ times on sides (Ladies RH & Men LH), 1s dance
between 3s (giving nearer hand in passing) & turn 4s 1½ times (Ladies RH &
Men LH) to end 2 3 4 1
Hope this is clearer.

Hello Charles,
Your present crib for this dance (downloaded today) is:
STRATHSPEY FOR THE BLACK WATCH (S4x32) 4C set R Sargent
1- 8 1s & 4s dance down/up into centre, about turn & dance back looping
round to original places, 1s+2s also 2s+4s turn 1½ times on sides (Ladies
LH & Men RH) to 2 1 4 3
9-16 1s+4s dance RH across & LH back
17-24 2s+1s also 4s+3s circle 4H round & back
25-32 1s turn 2s 1½ times on sides (Ladies RH & Men LH) while 4s dance
out end looping round into original places, 1s dance between 3s (giving
nearer hand in passing) & turn 4s 1½ times (Ladies RH & Men LH) to end 2
3 4 1
You now propose the amendment for 25-32:
> 25-32 1s & 4s dance out ends & cast into original places as 2s & 3s
> step up/down & 1s+2s turn 1½ times on sides (Ladies RH & Men LH), 1s
> dance between 3s (giving nearer hand in passing) & turn 4s 1½ times
> (Ladies RH & Men LH) to end 2 3 4 1
I am still not clear on the details.
a. Surely on 1-8 it should read .... 1s+2s also 3s+4s (not: "2s+4s") ?
b. The "about turn": at the end of which bar (1 or 2?), and which way
(all L, all R, inwards, outwards?)
c. (on amended text 25-32) Should it not be "2s & 3s step down/up" ?
d. Should not 3s step up on bar 29-30?
e. What is the phrasing? 2 bars to "cast and step", 3 bars for each 1
1/2 turn, and nil bars for passing between the 3s? Or different?
I would like to see the original instructions.
Greetings,
Eric
