honoring weekly SCD teachers

Marilynn has just mentioned that she believes that dancers in weekly SCD
dances rarely honor their teachers. I find this (happily!) to be far from the
case with the weekly class that I teach (and have taught for over two decades).
I have never received any remuneration for teaching this class, and so the
satisfaction of doing so is my only--but certainly sufficient--reward. And I am
regularly overwhelmed by the overt gratitude expressed to me by the dancers in
the class in many ways, including their verbal comments and holiday and other
occasional gifts. Beyond this, our (San Gabriel Valley) branch annually
holds a "Teacher Appreciation Dance" specifically for this purpose. Prior to
several of these, members of the class have added to the occasion by collectively
taking me out to dinner. All in all, I could not ask for a greater overt
display of love and appreciation from the dancers that I teach. (I hope that I am
far from alone in this!)
