Any SCD in Padua, Italy?

Message 32163 · Marie Pottinger · 18 Oct 2002 17:02:14 · Top

Does anyone know of any dance groups in or around Padua, preferably SCD/ECD?
('cos then I can learn by demo rather than trying to translate from Italian)

Ever hopeful...

Any SCD in Padua, Italy?

There are listings and phone contacts for Pisa and Turin in the RSCDS
Directory of Secretaries, both locations admittedly at considerable distance
from Padua, but if there is something going on in Padua or in nearby Venice,
then those folks would likely know of it. (If you do not have the directory,
feel free to reply to me personally for the phone numbers.)

The RSCDS website gives far from complete information, as it lists only
branches. On the European Continent, that is just six. It does not
even list officially "Affiliated Groups", Goodness knows why. Makes
this website worse than useless for finding groups (eg. lists only 2 of
the 10 groups in the Netherlands)

The List of Secretaries does list the Affiliated Groups, but not the
many groups that dance SCD without official status with the RSCDS.

An extreme examples is Germany. There are some 53 active groups, with
many young and excellent dancers. There is NO branch, and there are
only seven listed "Affiliated Groups". So don't rely on the RSCDS
information: it misleads travellers to think there is no SCD when in
fact there may be many groups

Anyone who wants detailed and complete information on SCD groups, class
schedules and dancing events in continental Europe should visit the
website (there IS a link from the RSCDS site, but only on the "events"
page, not on the "Groups" page)

http://www.celtic-circle.de/

which is maintained by Volker Wörtmann. It is as complete as anyone
can make it; I hardly ever discover any omission. It lists 9 groups in
Italy. The closest to Padova are at Ferrara (77 km) and and Bologna
(just over 100 km). Visit the website for contact addresses, phone
numbers, class times.

Advice to anyone visiting our continent: always use the Celtic Circle
in planning your trip. It will provide you with dance contacts and
friends everywhere.

Happy trips,

Eric
