"Schiehallion"

It is interesting to note that a Schiehallion reel is an
eightsome reel. As I had heard that "axum" is a Scots word
meaning eightsome, I looked up "Axum Reel"
[SCDB18-12(1955)]. Here, even though tha arms are not at
right angles, one will see the same pattern as Thurston's
except that one passes left shoulders to begin and the floor
pattern is that of an "H" instead of a cross. I don't know
the date of Thurston's dance but I suspect that this figure
could have been an inspiration.

Re: the name, Schiehallion [Sidh Chailleann] "officially"
means the Fairy Hill of the Caledonians.

sith (sithean) = n. fairy, peace, truce, or mount (hill)
a. spiritual

Ptolemy refers to Caledonii as a tribal name
Other forms: Calidonii Calydonii Caledone Caledu Caledo
Caledones Calwyddon
"-ios" = belonging to
Traditional meaning: grove, bower, wood (celli or coille) is
currently not in favor.
However, "kal" (calath, caladh, caled) meaning "hard" is ...
along with "kal" [L. clamare {call}, Sp. llamar {to call},
Gk. kaleo {call} or kelados {din, clamor}.

Incidently a "banshee" [white spirit, or bean/ben sidhe/side
{woman of the fairies}] is known for its wail which portends
a death in the household.
