Bobby Frew

Message 20699 · J Middleton · 9 Mar 2000 17:14:10 · Top

It is with a great deal of sadness that I have to pass on the news of
Bobby Frew's passing on Wednesday, 8th March, 2000. He had been in failing
health for some time. Bobby was lead Accordeon in the great Stan Hamilton
"Flying Scotsmen" bands for many, many years. When Stan's band broke up,
Bobby formed his own band "The Bobby Frew Four" and has continued to
provide great music for dancing (Scottish Country and other) for the last
several years - both live and recorded. He has occupied a very large
place in the hearts of the Scottish Country Dance Community for the last
40+ years. He will be very sadly missed. Our condolences go to his wife,
Joyce. John Middleton.

I've just caught up on the past week of Strathspeys and read the message about
Bobby Frew's passing.

A wonderful accordionist who's recordings with The Flying Scotsmen were a great
inspiration and influence on me in my formative years.

A sad loss.
