3 new dances

Dear Strathspeyers and a few others,

Last weekend what in mainland Europe is widely recognised as THE
advanced SCD workshop/ball took place in Rechberg, Germany.

This year there was no drop in the high standard. The teacher, Christine
Mair from the Saint Andrews Branch, was in excellent form and the
musicians for both classes and ball were Keith Smith and Muriel
Johnstone of whom I can only say - if you haven't yet purchased the
album "Cairngorm" then do so ASAP.

Some new(ish) dances were introduced at the workshop and I now present
them to you. URLs are listed at the bottom of this message.

The first one, Catriona Joan Stewart is a 32 bar strathspey for 3
couples which, while containing (at first sight) nothing VERY much out
of the ordinary, requires a great deal of skill to be performed
correctly. It was devised by Christine.

The dance To Karin, devised by Andrew Timmins of Adelaide is a 4 couple
reel and was hugely appreciated by the course students. The Karin of the
title is, of course, Karin Schnabl, whose name should be familiar to
many of you.

And finally, the strathspey which I told you about some months back,
Getting to Know You, devised by Christine's Prelim class at Saint
Andrews, was taught and danced. Also well appreciated and I recommend it
again to you.

Try them.

Alan
