This reminds me of a Scottish couple who had recently come out and joined
out Club. We were having a special night and everyone was advised to "Bring
a Plate". This couple came the next week with a lovely plate, but nothing
on it! We had to explain that we meant to bring something for supper! They
now tell the story to everyone about the "strange" Australians! but use the
same expression, with a difference, "Bring a Plate, with something on it".
