It seems that in addition to the tune called "Rothesay Rant", it's
also very common to use "The Directors" for this dance. This isn't
surprising, since their styles are so similar. I have a handwritten
copy of it, with no info about it, so I looked it up online. I found
that strathspey.org lists Bert Murray as the composer. I also found a
number of sites that claim Andrew Rankine as the composer. The phrase
"The Directors" gets far too many google hits (over 600,000) to be
useful, and adding obvious words to it like "jig" doesn't cut the
number down much below 100,000, so google's not a very good source of
info about the tune. The few references to the tune that I dug out
mostly pointed to my transcription and a few youtube recordings that
all name Andrew Rankine.

So does anyone actually know who composed "The Directors"? I like to
include such info in my copies of tunes, but sometimes it can be a
bit difficult to find things like composers' names.

(There might be more than one tune by that name, of course. ;-)
