I received a wonderful gift this holiday season which, in one of those
unexpected twists, has an interesting connection to Eleanor (and
therefore to SCD?).
It's called Shepherd's Watch ("Your Personal Sundial"). They're
recreations of historical timepieces. The piece I was given is an
Aquitaine ring:
"In 1152, Eleanor of Aquitaine gave an Aquitaine ring to Henry
II, so that he would know when to leave the hunt for their love
trysts. Moved by her love, Henry ordered his jewellers to make a
copy for Eleanor - inlaid with diamonds and engraved with the
words "Carpe Diem" - Seize the Day."
Mine is a copy (minus the diamonds - darn!) of the one Henry gave
Eleanor.
I was completely charmed to discover that it really does work on sunny
days.
