I'm surprised nobody has referred to the FAQ on our Society Website which
has the following reply.
(It's under HELP - General Technique on the new website but was also on the
old site)
This is also how we were taught.

Tournee

When do the couples release hands to change from promenade hold to one hand?

Both couples change from using both hands in promenade hold to one hand at
the end of bar 4, after turning the ladies across in front of the men. (The
couple at the top retain right hands, and the couple at the bottom retain
left hands)
