I asked the BBC for the name of the band. Here's their reply. I do
hope this was a canned letter; if not, he likely spent as much time
writing it as he would have answering the question. :-)

Dear Mike

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Monarch of the Glen'.

I understand that you would like to know the name of the band in episode 3 of Series 1.

As you may be aware, a major "value for money" exercise has taken place at the BBC to ensure that we can spend more of the Licence Fee on programmes. One result has been a significant reduction in staffing in BBC Information (staff numbers are being reduced by 26%) to release more money to be invested in programmes.

A change of this magnitude has obviously only happened following very careful consideration and debate about the best use of resources however it does, regrettably, mean that we can no longer help with some of the unique enquiries we were previously able to handle for individual licence payers.

Instead, to provide a cost-effective service, we will concentrate on finding and publishing information which we know, from experience, is the most frequently requested. We have found that the quickest and easiest way for our audience members to find the information they need is to make information available on bbc.co.uk and, as such, will also be encouraging production teams to make better use of the website to provide more detailed information about their programmes.

Unfortunately, your enquiry falls into this category and, as a result, we are unable to supply the information you requested on this occasion. I realise that this may disappointing however I do hope that you appreciate the need to be as efficient as possible with the Licence Fee.

I am sorry I could not be of more assistance and thank you, once again, for your interest in the BBC and taking the time to contact us.

Regards

Mark Campbell
