I am fairly certain that I know, Chris, who that SoCal exile is, an
erstwhile denizen of my Thousand Oaks class now living (alas for us) in New Jersey.
Tim Wilson, the deviser, might well dispute the "intended to depict." As far
as I know, the "L for Linnea" connection was my own invention, sort of a
mnemonic teaching device for the dancers to do that unusual conclusion of
"hello-goodbye" setting correctly (and as such, by the way, it really works).
In a message dated 4/23/2008 9:47:21 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time,
"It's been a big hit in Southern California ever since it was introduced."
By the way, I learned last night from a southern Californian exile that the
movement on bars 15-16 is intended to depict an "L" - for Linnea.
