There are two versions of a French Canadian dance called
*Brandy Rump Bump* that I know off. The first is a four
couple square. It comes from the region of St-Tite des
Caps, Quebec.
Figure One:
1-16 Circle to the right, hands held at shoulder
height, partners facing.
17-32 Swing (using country dance hold)
Figure Two:
1-8 1st couple move to 2nd couple, join hands and
circle to the left.
9-16 Circle back to the right (end with 2nd couple in
home position, couple one facing)
17-20 Women pass right shoulders and stand back to
back facing opposite man.
21-24 Join right hands with this person and bow
(women BUMP each other)
25-32 Swing original partner in country dance position.
1-32 Repeat this figure with couple three and then
1-32 With couple four.
Figure Three:
1-4 Give right hands to corner and turn once around
clockwise to place.
5-16 Swing partners (use country dance position)
17-32 Grand chain.
33-48 Swing partner.
49-80 Promenade round the corners of the square.
Partners in open social position use 2 two-steps
to the corner position -- travel CW -- and 2
two-steps to turn CW in place at the corner.
Continue for each corner of the square. Returning
home at end of final turn.
Repeat dance from Figure Two with couple #2 beginning (#3, #4 on
consecutive repeats of the dance).
MUSIC: Le Sant du Lapin.
The second version (one that I have used) is an adaptation of
*Brandy Rump Bump (1)* for use in a single circle.
Circle of couples. Woman on the Man's Right-hand side, all
hands are joined. Hold hands at shoulder height, partners are facing
each other.
Part One:
1-8 Circle to the left (Men walk backwards, Women forwards).
9-16 Circle to the right (Men walk forwards, Women backwards).
17-24 Give right hand to partner and turn once around to place.
25-32 Repeat measures 17-24 with left hand and end with
men's backs to centre of circle.
Part Two:
1-8 Do-si-Do with partner passing right shoulder to
begin.
9-16 Do-si-Do with partner passing left shoulder to
begin.
17-20 Advance to original place in circle turning to face
partner on 20 (Everyone is in a single circle
as at the beginning of the dance).
21-24 Give right hand to partner and bow at the same time
bumping the person behind.
25-32 Turn to the person bumped and swing.
Repeat the dance from the beginning with new partner.
MUSIC: Le Sant du Lapin.
Hope this helps!
Regards, John
