A large of this thread has degenerated into "dem-team-itis". The prelims are just that, an predance acknowledgement of one´s partner. When we meet another on the street, we don´t have to use the same formula, no more should we in a country dance. Yes, to the obscessives, it might look nice, from the outside, to see a regimented line down the room, but the essence of a country dance is the set, and the minor set at that, so the important interaction should be with one´s partner, and the rest of the minor set, not some grand reference to the room at large.
