Oops.

This is what happens if you go for ?strathspey.org? instead of
?www.strathspey.org?. Don't do that. It is really a placeholder that comes up
because the ?strathspey.org? site has nothing better to show for its main
page; its reason for being is so the web-based administration pages for the
Mailman software will work, which runs the Strathspey list, for now. The Zope
system that runs the Strathspey server has, once more, decided to go out for
lunch and I have just reset it so the site should work again.

Actually both the days of Zope and Mailman are numbered as far as Strathspey
is concerned. I've already told you about the new community web system, which
incidentally already supports most of the Strathspey site on my ?playground?
system (with improvements, here and there), and I'm also writing, with a
colleague, a new mailing list management system which will hopefully bring
back much of the simplicity and convenience (from our point of view, anyway)
of the previous, pre-Mailman software. It works well so far for some small
lists that we run but needs to be taught about handling bounces and preparing
digests before it can be let loose on Strathspey, which once it happens will
not be one day too early as far as I am concerned. At least then I know who
to blame for any bugs (myself) and have a fighting chance of getting rid of
them. We won't have a web interface, at least not right away, but the one
that comes with Mailman is far more trouble than it's worth anyway. (If you
want to know more about the new mailing list system, which we have called
?Project Lancelot?, peruse http://lancelot.anselms.net .)
