I tried to post this yesterday, but it apparently didn't make it. Apologies
if you get it twice.

Hi, everybody

I have been asked to post the instructions for another new dance by our
resident devisor, David LeBroque. It is called "Rigmarole", and is a 4x48
Strathspey for 4 couples in a square set. The date of composition is 1 March
2002, and they don't come much fresher than that!

Rigmarole 4x48 bar Strathspey 4 couples in a sqare set

Music Description
----- -----------

1-2 All "set" to partner.

3-5 Turn partner both hands to the left. On bar 5, all pivot
on right foot and bring left foot across between self & partner.

6-8 Turn partner both hands to the right. Finish in original position
facing partner.

9-16 All dance circular reel once round. Begin by passing partner with
the left shoulder.

17-20 Ladies dance right hands across. Finish in original position
facing in.

21-24 Men dance left hands across. Finish in original position
facing anti-clockwise.

25-32 All dance double crossing ladies chain. Ladies give right
hands across in the middle and dance into the opposite
man's vacant position, men dance into partner's position
ready to turn opposite lady half way by the left hand.
Repeat to original positions.

33-34 All face in, join nearer hands, and "set".

35-40 1st and 3rd couples dance right hands across half-way,
2nd and 4th couples advance one position clockwise around
the set and dance into the middle, 4th man passing 3rd man
by the right shoulder, 4th lady dancing between third
couple passing 3rd lady by the right shoulder.
MEANWHILE 2nd man passing 1st man by the right shoulder,
2nd lady dancing between 1st couple passing first lady by
the right shoulder.

4th couple with 2nd couple dance right hands across half-way
to finish 2nd couple in 1st position.
MEANWHILE 3rd couple and 1st couple advance one position
clockwise to finish 1st couple in 4th position, 3rd couple
in 2nd position in order 2-3-4-1.

41-48 All circle 8 hands around and back to finish 2-3-4-1.

Repeat 3 times.

David has prepared some mock-Pilling diagrams, which I can send as a GIF
file privately on request. If it helps, the diagram for bars 35-40 indicates
that 1st and 3d couples do half right hands across and chase anticlockwise
one position, while 2nd and 4th couple chase anti-clockwise one position
then do right hands across half-way.

(I haven't done this dance myself yet, but my wife Jo says that it's tricky
but interesting!)

Enjoy!
