The reason the Society changed the name from Birl to Bourrel?

Birl is an old Scottish word with slang conotations, indicating whirling
around with lack of control. And we all know how the Society feels about
lack of control. Most of the 'figures' appear to have French names? I
can just see us dancing the Birl! the Teuchter! (pronounced choochter) the
Stoater! etc.
