All the RSCDS books from 1 through 13 have right shoulder parallel reels of
three in them even though the original printed versions might have been mirror
reels. Before Bk 14 was in the works, Dr. Thurston pointed out that
Thomas Welch had given detailed instructions in one of his books for the
figures given in the other books. These detailed instructions showed that
the reel in, for example, Miss Mary Douglas, should have been mirror
reels. Not only did the society change, one of there first books of
modern dances included a dance by Thurston with mirror reels in it. They
did not change the dances already published because of the confusion that
it would have caused. The original Miss Marry Daoulgas is called Lady
Mary Douglas, but the society couldn't find a Lady Mary so they changed
the name. Thurston taught the mirror reel version aa Lady Mary.
