I agree that some people may be more stimulated with the sounds of fusion
groups. I also believe that it can be used in performance. My interests were
more toward a middle ground, of old tunes played by musicians who know how to
make the music swing and using better sound recording systems. John and Andy
can do that. Their album "Live" is a good example of great SCD music. Many of
my students young and old love it. Alasdair Fraser also has a way to make the
music swing, without changing the basic essence of the tune. Muriel dances on
the keyboard and keeps us on our toes.
My initial comment was in regards to the quality of the recording as well
as the quality of the musicians. I've heard good bands recorded poorly. The
days of recording from a microphone in the middle of the band is over. We
have the technology to do better. The most modest of bands will sound better
if recorded properly.
I have to admit that I appreciate all musicians who go that extra mile to
play for us dancers. It's hard work. I've done it myself.
