In the SF Branch, most teachers receive a token payment for teaching,
usually in the neighbourhood of $10 to $20 per class. Clearly not an
amount someone could live on comfortably in this vicinity, no matter how
many classes one took. Most of us don't even think of it as an income
supplement, but rather as a reimbursement for expenses - petrol and
ghillie leather and the occasional CD. No doubt I'd teach SCD whether or
not this payment was tendered; I suppose its value is more a matter of
morale than substance.
