Since taking over the Frankfurt class, I have found to my surprise that
I receive a fairly decent sum of deutschmarks per term from the
`Frankfurter Tanzkreis', our mother organization (which brings together
all sorts of dance groups in Frankfurt, from ballroom to ethnic to
square dance to ...), plus expenses for travelling to and from class. I
suspect that this comes out of class fees as well as out of city council
subsidies to the Tanzkreis for all the good work they do to keep the
people off the street at night.
Taken per hour of instruction, my `salary' equals roughly what
instructors in adult-learning centres (`Volkshochschule' =3D `People's
University') earn. You would have to teach rather a lot of SCD classes
to be able to live on it, but it is by no means insignificant.
Don't let the Tanzkreis people hear that I would be happy to teach for
the fun of it -- their money lets me buy lots of SCD books and CDs and
also subsidizes my going to workshops. (Presumably this is what they
would want me to do with it, anyway.)
PS. Some time you will have to tell me about how you do the beer thing,
Alan -- we usually go for ice cream after class but nobody seems
to want to pick up my check ...
