I've heard them referred to as `horseshoe' reels of three, for instance
in Derek Haynes's FigCards. Of course you won't find this name in the
RSCDS manual.

PS. While I have your attention: Thanks to all the dancers in the SF Bay
area who made me so welcome during last week (especially Coletta and
Armin Busse, Alan Twhigg and Lyle Ramshaw). I've had a great time
-- now if only I'd brought the rubber-soled ghillies to the party!
