Ron Mackey writes:

Having played a round of golf with three friends we were
'refreshing ourselves' in the 19th hole and someone said he was an
optimist and quoted the 'half full' maxim. Another said " I
suppose that means that if he thinks his glass is half full we need
not look to him for the next round of drinks..???" :>)

Recently I saw a version that I liked:

A pessimist says the glass is half empty;
an optimist says the glass is half full;
an engineer says the glass is twice as large as is needed.
