In York we have about 15 or so roads / streets that are called ...gate,
including Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate; A leftover from when York was Yorvick,
and the people in charge were Vikings.
We also have 4 gateways through the city walls called ...bars
And in Micklegate we have so many hostelries (pubs) that if you
start at Micklegate Bar and have a drink in everyone on the way
down to the river you would be pretty incapable - known locally
as the "Micklegate Run" .
