>[Mel:]I need some clarification. Is there actually a question about which way >the promenades (promenadae?) go?
I think the promenades for all 4 couples are CW for the first one, and CCW
for the second one. I don't think this is where the variants occur (but I
suppose those who do both of those promenades CW will surely chime in!).
The main variations I am aware of occur when the head couples dance around,
thru and curl in to face the standing side couples and later when the side
couples dance the same (similar) sequence.
Variation 1: The dancing couples PROMENADE CW around behind the standing
couples, release hands and then curl to the right around the same-gender
person to face that person.
Variation 2: The dancing couples CHASE CW (man ahead of the lady) around
behind the standing couples, and then curl to the right around the
same-gender person to face that person.
Variation 3: Side couples begin their promenade or chase by going CW.
Variation 4: Side couples begin their promenade or chase by going CCW.
