I have yet to hear an electronic imitation of the sound a Harpsichord makes
that is even remotely like the real thing, although there are some extremely
good piano-sound emulators on the market. I suspect the sound decay on the
sound of a harpsichord is too variable and individualistic to be reproduced
electronically.
Sir Thomas Beecham's description of the Harpsichord sound was cruel but not
altogether inapt: "Sounds like the clattering of a hen dancing on the keys of
a piano".
