Haliburton School of Fine Arts is again offering a week of Scottish Country
Dance classes: 5-9th July, 1999. Haliburton is probably the only place
where Scottish Country Dancing is officially listed as a Fine Art - it can
even be taken as a Fine Arts Credit!! Haliburton is situated in the scenic
Haliburton Highlands, a couple of hours drive north of Lake Ontario.
Accomodation varies from the many wonderful resort hotels through B-&-B's to
camping. The classes will be taught by Maggie and Duncan Keppie, for whom
this will be their 7th Year. The daily schedule usually starts with a joint
warm-up session followed by two classes: Beginner/Novice and
Intermediate/Advanced. Coffee break is followed by another two classes:
Beginner/Novice/Intermediate and Advanced which lasts until lunch, usually a
picnic by the lakeshore. Digestion is aided by a joint discussion session
(previous topics have included The Music, History of the Dance, SCD and
Celtic Art, etc.) followed by a joint dance session. The day finishes with
two more classes: Beginner/Novice and Inermediate/Advanced. Friday Night is
Dance Ceilidh Night and Saturday is the Hlaiburton Highland Games at which
some of the dancers perform.
Dates: 5-9th July, 1999
Cost: Canadian $189.05
